Historical Sourdough Starter

The other day, I was reading "Judy's post (over at "Fullfreezer) about her day. And she said that she had found a Crock that would be just right for "Sourdough Starter" and I made a comment that I would like to to post about!

Surfing around the Internet one night, Looking for Sourdough Recipes, I found this Web site, Carsfriends.net. This is a group of people that are continuing the work that Carl .T. Griffith Did up until his death back in 2000.

And what was that work, you might ask? Preserving and feeding of the "1847 SOURDOUGH STARTER" that his family has used and kept active for the past 164 YEARS! Now one other thing that Carl did was to Give To Anyone Who Asked For The Starter, A Starter of their Own! How cool is that?

And there is a group of people (Carl'sfriends.net) who still  gives to anyone,  a dried portion of that starter that asks for it. And it's at no coast! All you have to do is send a SASE to one of the members and in a few weeks, You could be part A OF HISTORY!

I have learned that dried starter is "Self-Stabilizing" and can be placed into the freezer for up to a year. It can be Rehydrate at anytime and it will be ready to it's Sour thing!
I love bread, Especially Sourdough Bread! And I like to make bread at home. Ether in the bread machine (when pressed for time!) or with the "Kitchen Aid" mixer. Is there anything better that Home Made Bread right out of the oven, with lots of butter and maybe some Jam!?

So, I would suggest that you go to the web site and read Carl's story and get the address to get "Your Own Piece of History! I know I will!
