Coop done and HOLLY CRAP!

Another Chicken Post!

This is the day I was able to complete the addition to the Chicken coop. Added a second door on the back and installed the new nesting boxes. And cleaned the old bedding out and put in new.

OK, so it's not pretty. But it works. All made from recycled wood!

Both doors opened and one of the "Comets" checking out the new space.

The new Nesting Boxes. 3 milk crates and 2 office boxes on top. Lined with a sheet of cardboard to help ho;d the bedding in.

And installed in in the coop. New bedding in place.

All cleaned out and new bedding in place.

One of the "GC's and "RIR's doing an inspection! The area to the right is where they have been laying Eggs, If they decide to lay in the coop.

And the fruits of their labors.

Small, Medium, Large and .....

HOLLY CRAP! I have gotten one of the Extra Large Eggs every day! Bet they are Double Yokes!

A surprise in each one!
With the 10 I got yesterday and 9 more today, That makes 447 Eggs so far!

God I love my Chickens!

  1. Looks like you made a pretty nice little hen house there Tom. They don't care if it's fancy. To keep our chickens from flying over the fence (didn't want to clip their wings) we used baling string. It's orange colored so they can see it and lasts a really long time. We just tied each string separately so we can untie them to get in there and weed eat their area around the edges. You get a big roll of it and it was inexpensive too. We use it to tie up our raspberry bushes too. Our chickens are now three years old and are in their molt so we are down to one egg every other day. Guess we'll have to get some little chicks here pretty soon!

    1. Denise,
The best part is I made it all out of recycled wood! No cost for lumber. And when I increase the size of the flock next year, another addition is easy to add on the other end.
The bailing string is a good idea. I was thinking about using Chicken wire over the top, but that's a lot of wire.
My girls are 7 months old and still laying strong! Anther 9 Eggs today, for a total of 464 so far. I'm sure I can reach 600 by the end of the year!

    1. Bee Girl,
Thanks! The numbers are so great. I wanted Chickens for so long and now that I have them, I know I will never go hungry.
And they are so funny! The "Golden Comets" really put out the Eggs and I will increase the flock next year with them (another 6 at least!) and start selling eggs.
Can you tell I LOVE MY CHICKENS?????

LOL! Little did we know that this whole thing was going to confuse as this much!
The work on all 5 of the gifts has been hit and miss. And trying to decide if I wanted to make something new or send what I already had.
I thing Susan knew just what she was doing! I can just hear her now, "Why not make five others as confused as I was?!!
