Alass, no Chicks!

I got up at the crack of dawn and went to get the Chicks. But nobody had any (Tractor Supply had 5 Cornish Rocks, But they are meat birds and I want egg layers!).
I went to Ace Hardware and they were completely out. But I talked to the manager and they will have a new batch of "Brown Leg Horne" birds in Monday. So I will be there bright and early and try to get a half dozen.
He also told me that they will have a batch of Easter Egger's on 16 April. I will be there before they unlock the doors!!
He also asked if I knew anyone that was raising Rabbits this year! When I told him I did, He wanted to know if I had any ready for sale! I had to tell him that I did not at present, But that I will be trying to breed next month or the month after. He said that he would buy all that I can produce for $7.50 each! I need to get "Buck Henry" to be" THE MAN" and get Alice and Coley knocked up!

So Chicks on hold until Monday!

    1. The manager said that they sell rabbit kits around Easter each year. And if I can get the Rabbits to play nice, I could be the supplier from here on out!

  2. You've got a corporation in the making! It's amazing how fast the chicks go out the door -- makes you think they'd order more, doesn't it? Brown Leghorns will be perfect for your place. They are quite the egg layers.

    1. It makes no sense to me that they do not have an order in so in for the week end crowd! But Monday will be soon enough. The Leghorns do indeed sound great and the Easter Eggers in April are the ones I have always wanted!

  4. I think every homestead has got to have laying hens. There's nothing like having your own homegrown eggs. The flavor is SO far superior to anything you can buy in a store. You can make an awful lot of dishes using the wonderful egg. Wishing you lots of luck in getting the chicks you want soon.

Whadda deal that that guy will pay you $7.50 for your rabbits! That could start to add up fast if he wants more than just one batch of them.

    1. Mama Pea,
When the Homestead was just a dream, Chickens were at thatop of the list of the things I wanted to do here! I have been here 4 years now and I'm just getting them. It took that long to get them worked into the budgit. And now I hope to add to the flock a little at a time and have as meny as I can get!
      Brown Leghorns Monday
      Easter Eggers 16 April!

The manager ta Ace said that he lost his supplier from last year and needs a reliable Breeder for this yead and next! Because of this I may increase the number of breeders I have and get a couple different breeds? I will have to think about this a bit!
